I’ve had pretty good luck selling some items on Ebay. The downside is not knowing if something will sell and then the fees if it does. So, I’m slowly adding a selling capacity to the website through Paypal. I’ve got the Coat Racks set up. Probably do the waste basket next. Hope this works out.

Sold a Mission Oak Coat Rack and a Picture Frame today. Also, I’ve been contacted by several people interested in my pieces. I’m doing three small frames for tiles to be delivered this week. Time to buy more wood!

I just made a batch of picture frames and listed one on Ebay. I like to give these as wedding gifts to my nieces and nephews. I usually try to frame their wedding invitation. As always, Quartersawn white oak, through tenon construction, and a tung oil finish. Maybe I’ll get lucky and sell a few.

Well, I’m going to try to sell some items on Ebay. Time to see if I can make any money from this hobby and pay for more tools. I decided to start with my Mission oak coat rack. This is my smallest piece, so it’s easy to build and cheaper to ship. The Ebay item number is 130322734460. If this works, I’ll probably try my picture frames next.

I recently came across the Lumberjocks website (http://lumberjocks.com) while searching for a router jig. This is a collection of woodworkers and furniture builders who share projects tips and opinions on all things related to wood works. I joined up and was immediately welcomed by many of the members. I could spend quite awhile looking through all of the projects and posts. I hope to submit one of my pieces to their project section. This seems like a great place to learn some new things and see other peoples work.

Mission Style Outdoor Lights

I recently had a discussion with a friend about replacing his mission style outdoor lights. The units he had were cheap replicas that had been there for quite a while. He wanted to replace two outdoor ceiling lights as well as some landscape lighting. As I looked around to see what is available, I found Arroyo Craftsman (http://www.arroyo-craftsman.com), Hubbardton Forge Lighting (http://www.vtforge.com) and Feiss Lighting (http://www.feiss.com).

Arroyo Craftsman hand builds all of their products. They have many different types of interior lighting as well as mission style outdoor lights. They have post mount, wall mount, ceiling mount, and a huge variety of landscape lighting. Some of their pieces look like they’re 80 years old. They can even customize your lights with different finishes and glasses. They’re outdoor ceiling lighting is available in pendant, flush mount, and semi-flush mount. All of their products are classic mission style lights.

Both Hubbardton Forge Lighting and Fiess Lighting have more varieties in their styles. While some of them are not appropriate as mission style lights, they both have lines that would fit well with the arts and crafts motif.

When you don’t see prices on the website, you know these are going to be expensive. I turned the search over to him and I am anxious to see if he finds anything he likes. I’ll keep you posted

I’ve been working to get home website, www.missionworks.com, updated and functional. I’m trying to get some pictures and descriptions of the pieces I’ve worked on.
